Hi, I recall a similar 2D ascii version (smtrek) accessed via telnet at a site something like

smtrek.evolve.com or chime.evolve.com 1701

in the mid 1990’s

You could play the Federation, Romulans, Klingons, Gorn, and Orion

Anyone have any idea if it is still run anywhere?

I think Jon Liuni runs it. It hasn’t run in a year or two but he fires it up whenever he gets nostalgic. As far as I could tell when I logged in last it still had ships saved from the mid 1990s.
