Anybody interested in a team game, PvP Arena, and/or some gambling this weekend?

I’m wide open to suggestions, but I think it would be cool to have another team game or possibly enable the PvP arena over the weekend.

For those unfamiliar with these:

“Team play” mode is a feature that ships with the stock JavaTrek package. It’s basically a cross between capture-the-flag and king-of-the-hill, where joining players are randomly assigned to one of two teams. The goal is for your team to maintain control of the “flag” object in the center of the map and collect as much gold as possible to beat the other team.

The “PvP Arena” is a sort of inverted Romulan Territory-esque sphere surrounding the Delta Vega & Deneva planets, which can be toggled similar to the team play mode. The difference is that the game alerts everyone in the game when someone *leaves* the area. There’s no strict format, and it can be played either with teams, 1v1 matches ala tournament bracket, or even a massive free-for-all. The accepted practice is to count as a loss, any ship leaving the zone or dying. It helps speed up some of those drawn out standoffs, since a ship can only run so far in one direction.

If you have a score to settle and you just can’t seem to get a straight-up fight against your rival, PvP Arena might be a fun way to handle business.

If there’s any interest, we can also experiment with some MTrek gold “gambling”. For this, we’d use the PvP Arena and let players make gold bets, battling it out with fresh ships. For example, Player A and B agree to fight each other for 5,000 gold: If player A wins, 5,000 gold is paid from a ship in Player B’s fleet, to one in Player A’s fleet. Terms and winning conditions would be agreed upon (which ships are putting up the gold, how long the fight can last, best X out of y rounds, etc), the fight(s) would happen, and the accounts would be settled. This might interest some of you since you aren’t risking your big ship, only a sum of gold.
